Having just met with leaders of industry for a quick catch up today, I sat at an entertaining table observing how each of us spoke. Quite often these meetings involve minimal conversation, with agents not overly keen to share their “secrets”.
I drove away thinking about how wonderfully open the conversation was and the reasons were abundantly clear. People at the top of their game love seeing others succeed, are not threatened by another person’s success and want to be challenged in order to be forced to rise even further.
What is competition? It depends on how you look at it. Is it a person or company you want to beat, is it a person that challenges you to get better, or maybe a combination? I have great respect for Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. 2 men who have always maintained a strong friendship despite a very fierce on court rivalry. I’m sure they both agree that they forced each other to be even better than they ever imagined. This seems like a healthy competition that brings positivity to both their lives.
